america's funniest home videos on abc.com
Client
ABC (through Schematic)Challenge
America's Funniest Home Videos has been promoting short home movies years before YouTube was ever established. However, at the time of the project , its web site did not provide any access to its valuable content. Schematic was asked to design a broadband site that would encourage users to explore AFV's vast library of short movies. The design should also allow for reuse of the wireframe templates on other abc.com broadband show sites.
Solution
An experience that build upon itself and reinforced video exploration. One video would serve as a doorway to another with an ability to interact with the content through ratings and commenting. The design remains active on the American's Funniest Home Videos web site.
Process
I worked in partnership with another User Experience designer to create a deck of wireframes that centered around the video content. We studied the web sites of other established video sites include YouTube to understand what makes them successful. I explored an alternative to the traditional star-rating method that would better represent the comical image of AFV. The site was successfull launched in the fall of 2007.
